MND Therapy

MND Therapy That Starts With You

At RoboFit, we understand that a diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease (MND) can feel overwhelming—but you’re not alone. Our team is here to support you with a personalised, proactive approach focused on maintaining your independence, function, and quality of life.

MND affects the motor neurons in your brain and spinal cord, leading to progressive muscle weakness, including the muscles used for movement and breathing. While there is currently no cure, the right therapy can play a powerful role in helping you stay active, capable, and in control for as long as possible.

Our physiotherapists and exercise physiologists work closely with you to build a tailored program based on your goals, current abilities, and stage of progression. This may include gentle, targeted exercise, mobility training, fatigue management strategies, and respiratory support—delivered in a way that feels achievable and meaningful to you.

Personalised Clinical Care

Treatment programs designed around your functional abilities, goals and stage of disease progression, delivered by physiotherapists and exercise physiologists.

Neuroplasticity-Driven Technology

Our neuro-controlled HAL exoskeleton detects brain signals and assists movement, helping the brain relearn walking through real-time feedback.

1% Win Philosophy

We focus on the 1% wins towards maintaining your function and independence whilst supporting you with your diagnosis and management.

Who We Support?

Motor Neurone Disease presents differently for everyone, and we support individuals across all stages and types of MND.

Types of MND we support include:

  • Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS): The most common form, affecting both upper and lower motor neurons

  • Progressive Bulbar Palsy (PBP): Often first impacts speech and swallowing

  • Progressive Muscular Atrophy (PMA): Affects lower motor neurons, often with slower progression

  • Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS): A rare form affecting upper motor neurons with slower progression

  • MND with Frontotemporal Dementia (MND-FTD): Includes changes in behaviour, personality, and communication

  • Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA): A genetic condition affecting movement and strength, typically in younger individuals

No matter your diagnosis or stage, our focus remains the same: helping you maintain as much independence, safety, and quality of life as possible.

Our Programs

MND Therapy at RoboFit

Research shows that low-to-moderate intensity exercise can play an important role in maintaining physical function and overall wellbeing in people with MND.At RoboFit, your program is carefully designed to match your energy levels and capabilities. While exercise won’t reverse muscle weakness caused by MND, it can help slow functional decline, support mobility, and improve how you feel day-to-day.Your program may include:

  • Functional strength and mobility training
  • Fatigue management strategies
  • Balance and coordination work
  • Respiratory training and support

As your needs change, we also guide you in the use of assistive equipment such as walking aids, braces, and transfer supports—helping you stay safe, confident, and independent for as long as possible.

Technology & Assistive Equipment

RoboFit is proud to offer access to Australia’s only neuro-controlled exoskeleton technology, alongside a range of supportive therapy tools. Our exoskeleton uses biofeedback to detect your body’s signals and assist movement in real time. This allows you to continue practicing walking and functional movements with the right level of support. Unlike passive devices, HAL detects faint brain signals on the skin using electrodes, even before a movement happens and assists in completing it.This real time brain-body loop activates neuroplasticity: your brain’s ability to form new pathways and relearn movement. We also utilise:

  • Single joint robotic devices to target specific areas such as the knee, ankle, or elbow
  • Bodyweight support systems to enable safe, supported walking practice
  • Assistive equipment guidance to support your independence at home and in the community

Our goal is simple: to give you the tools, support, and confidence to keep moving forward.
